Questions

Before you send it.

Why send a repair request in writing?

A dated email or letter makes the problem, the date and what you asked for easier to understand later. Keep a copy and any reply.

What if it is an emergency?

Do not rely on a letter alone. Contact the landlord’s emergency number and the appropriate emergency or utility service. Leave the home if staying there is unsafe.

How long should I give the landlord?

There is no single deadline that works everywhere or for every repair. Choose a reasonable response time for the problem and check the law and emergency process where you live.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is a writing tool. Repair duties, access rules and escalation options depend on your location, agreement and facts.
